You see these spellings have not really changed since they got created, but what has changed is how they are pronounced. The English pronunciation mainly comes from the poverty and you average person back then, and those people were not very literate and tended to pronounce things in their own way, and since they are way more numerous, the common English language pronunciation comes from them, but the spelling comes from the richer literate people.
